Since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the war has had a disastrous impact on civilian life, leaving thousands of civilians dead and injured. It has also destroyed Ukraine's civilian infrastructure, including homes, apartments and businesses, places of worship, hospitals, schools, and cultural monuments.
As part of the response to the war crimes committed by Russia in Ukraine, many governments, multilateral and international organisations have engaged a range of accountability mechanisms and tools to protect international human rights law and appropriately prosecute human rights violations in Ukraine.
How will the international justice system ensure that Russia will be held accountable for its actions? What are the implications for the future of global justice for war crimes and human rights? And how can we make sure justice will be delivered?
AIIA Victoria invites you to join Tirana Hassan, Executive Director at Human Rights Watch, in conversation with Mohammad Chowdhury to delve into the challenges to international human rights law posed by the Russia-Ukraine War.
