Governance, Ideology and Technology in the Xi Jinping Era

Extraordinary changes have disrupted the status quo of Chinese Communist Party governance over the last decade. The Party calls this a new era of "China-style governance", claiming that both traditional and socialist ideas about law and morality underpin the Party's new political and legal thinking. At the same time, new technologies of surveillance and big data development have been incorporated into the Party's governance strategy. How are ideology and technology shaping changes in governance under Xi Jinping? This question will be addressed by a panel of Chinese law and governance experts, chaired by Richard Iron CMG OBE, President of AIIA Victoria.

This workshop is funded by the Australian Research Council, the Griffith Centre for Social and Cultural Research, University of Melbourne's Centre for Contemporary Chinese Studies and co-hosted with the Australian Institute of International Affairs (AIIA) Victoria.
