2024 is likely to mark a strategic turnaround in Russia's approaches to Northeast Asia and beyond.
In June, Russia and North Korea concluded a process of re-establishing close strategic ties with a formal defence pact, the first treaty of its kind signed by Moscow in Northeast Asia.
Moreover, 2024 marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Moscow and Beijing. Both major powers continue to highlight their elevated state of strategic relations as well as joint vision for a global future they envisage. A closer alignment of the three nuclear-armed and like-minded states reshapes considerably the strategic balance around the Korean peninsula and beyond.
