Ms Amanda Gorely is a senior Australian diplomat. Until February 2025, she was Australia’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Conference on Disarmament in Geneva. Prior to that, Amanda was Australia’s inaugural Ambassador for Arms Control and Counter Proliferation. She also concurrently headed up the International Security Division in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Amanda previously served as Australia’s Ambassador to the Philippines as well as Deputy High Commissioner to New Zealand and Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva with earlier postings to Sweden and Denmark. In Canberra, Ms Gorely served as Corporate Counsel and also headed up the WTO Trade Law Branch and International Law Section. She led crisis response teams in Ukraine, New Zealand and the Philippines. Amanda joined DFAT in 1993 as a legal specialist. Prior to that she completed an BA/LLB at the University of Melbourne and worked for a law firm.
