Dr Monika Barthwal-Datta is Senior Lecturer in International Security in the School of Social Sciences, UNSW Sydney. Monika’s research areas include critical security studies, securitization studies, strategic narratives, and foreign policy. Empirically, her research focus includes non-traditional security issues, particularly food security; non-state actors and regional security challenges in South Asia, and Indian foreign policy. Monika was awarded her PhD by Royal Holloway College, University of London, and holds an MScEcon in Security Studies from Aberystwyth University. She also has a Master’s in International Journalism from Cardiff University, and has worked as a Broadcast Journalist for the BBC World Service Radio in London for several years. Monika is the author of "Food Security in Asia: Challenges, Policies and Implications" (IISS and Routledge, 2014) and "Understanding Security Practices in South Asia: Securitisation Theory and the role of non-state actors" (Routledge, 2012).
Professor Greg Barton is Research Professor in Global Islamic Politics in the Alfred Deakin Institute for Citizenship and Globalisation (ADI), Deakin University where, since August 2015, he has led research on Islam and civil society, democratisation, and countering violent extremism. Greg has thirty-four years of experience researching Islam and social movements in Indonesia, Malaysia and broader Southeast Asia. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the Graduate School of Strategic and Global Studies (SKSG), University of Indonesia, and a Senior Fellow with the UAE-based Hedayah Center in Abu Dhabi working on CVE.
Dr. Michael Moignard spent 35 years as an Australian public servant working in trade and resources policy, and trade promotion. He holds a Masters in Science (Chemistry) from the University of Melbourne, a B.A. (Hons) in History and Economics from ANU, and a Diploma of Education from La Trobe University. Michael spent close to 7 years in India, as Senior Trade Commissioner for South Asia with the Australian High Commission in New Delhi. He first served in New Delhi from 1998 to 2000, and again from 2004 to 2008, most recently in late 2012. He also served with the Australian Trade Commission (Austrade) in New York, Santiago de Chile, Manila, and Singapore. Michael is an honorary Academic Fellow of the Australia India Institute (AII) and an Adjunct Research Fellow at La Trobe University. Michael is a Board Member of Ryder Cheshire Australia, and is President of its Victorian chapter. He is a Council Member of AIIA Victoria.
